Our Favorite Parks in Hondo - Cecil Atkission Ford Blog

The City of Hondo is a welcoming place and that extends to our city parks. City crews maintain 107 acres of parkland daily at 14 city parks, which are all equipped with picnic tables, BBQ pits, and playground equipment. Of course, some parks are big, and some parks are small, but they all provide a respite from the busy world. We appreciate the work of our city crews and are glad to have these gems in our city. Let’s find out more about the parks of Hondo.

A handful of the parks are specially dedicated to an active pursuit; these are Airport Ball Fields at 601 Twining Street, the Sports Complex and Soccer Fields adjacent at 406 and 407 Spaatz Road, the Skate Park at Sunset at 1605 18th Street, and Nature Trail Park at 182 Castro Avenue. Five running tracks are also maintained by the city at Jungman Park, City Park, Sunset Park, Torres Park, and Nature Trail Park.

City Park features a charming stone gateway and tall mesquite trees. In addition to the facilities mentioned above, it has a small pavilion, basketball court, and beach volleyball court. Jungman Park has lots of shade, while right next door, TA Lopez Park has a large ballfield. Sunset Park features a small-court basketball area.

Additionally, the City of Hondo runs the Rick Taylor Recreation Center a facility with a full size gym, racquetball court, fitness room, and weight/cardio room, plus the City of Hondo Pool, open seasonally with activities for the whole family.
