OUR FOUNDERS
Cecil and Nancy Atkission
Cecil Atkission was born in 1949 in the small west Texas town of Vernon. Following his graduation From Vernon High School, Cecil attended West Texas State University until enlisting In the United States Air Force in 1969. While serving in South Korea, Cecil received the Air Force Emeritus Commendation Medal. After completing his service in 1973, Cecil began selling calculators for Singer Friden until 1974, when he went to work for Dave Woods Motors.
In 1975, Cecil became a salesperson for Capitol Chevrolet in Austin, Texas, just a short drive away from Nancy Comegys, who worked at First Federal Savings. Cecil and Nancy began dating in 1978. In 1980, Cecil's talents and hard work as salesman, truck manager, and new car sales manager were rewarded with his promotion to General Sales Manager of Capitol Chevrolet, where he continued to excel. Shortly after Cecil and Nancy married in January 1981, they decided to go into business for themselves and began the search for a dealership in a small town. In 1982 they purchased Hank Harmon Motors in Uvalde, Texas. Renamed Cecil Atkission Motors, this was the first dealership that would comprise the Cecil Atkission Automotive Group. Over the years, we have grown to include dealerships, across the state of Texas, receiving many awards from automobile manufacturers for sales and customer satisfaction.
Cecil and Nancy believe in giving back to their communities and are looking for individuals to join their teams who are willing to serve their towns. Cecil has served on the Schreiner University Board, Peterson Health Board of Directors, as President of the Peterson Health Foundation Board, President of Kerrville Rotary and President of the Kerrville Area Chamber of Commerce. He has received numerous honors from business, civic, and non-profit organizations. In 2016 Cecil was named the Bill Dozier Citizen of the Year by the Kerrville Chamber of Commerce.
