Ford is All In on EVs
The shift toward electric vehicles is happening fast and Ford is leading the charge with some amazing offerings, but this isn’t anything new. Ford looked at building EVs for the first time well over a hundred years ago, in 1914. Henry Ford himself was a big proponent of battery electric vehicles as they were simpler and easier to operate than gasoline or steam-powered vehicles of the time, but then as now, battery technology was a big stumbling block. The advent of advanced lithium battery technology has finally allowed EVs to enter the mainstream automotive market. Ford has two very impressive EVs available now or in the near future: The Mustang Mach-E, and the F-150 Lightning.
Mustang Mach-E
The Mustang is a storied nameplate among the Ford faithful, so the fact that Ford chose to adorn this EV with the Mustang moniker tells you how much faith they’re putting into it. The Mach-E is an SUV like no other. Though it comes complete with four doors and a rear liftgate, the performance numbers sound like a sports car: the Performance Edition of the Mach-E can do 0-60 in 3.5 seconds! That’s faster than a base-spec Porsche 911, and a crazy number for a vehicle this size. Along with the whiplash acceleration comes over 300 miles of EPA-estimated range, the Ford CoPilot 360 safety suite, and Ford BlueCruise, which allows hands-free driving on many highways across the country. The Mach-E can do it all.
F-150 Lightning
The Ford F-150 has been the best-selling vehicle in the country for over forty years, and when you have a winning formula like this one, making a paradigm shift to electrification seems like killing the goose that laid the golden egg. That is, until you drive one. The reviews are nearly unequivocal: Ford knocked this one so cleanly out of the park that buyers are left wondering what took them so long to electrify the F-150. The launch version of the Lightning is only available in quad-cab with a six foot bed, but what it lacks in bed space it more than makes up for in utility and practicality. Features like multiple 120 volt outlets inside and out, an additional 14 cubic feet of storage space in the ‘frunk’, and the ability to charge other EVs from its own battery pack make this F-150 truly revolutionary. Add to that all time four-wheel drive, over 300 miles of EPA-estimated range and a towing capacity of 10,000 pounds, and you’ll see that this is a vehicle built without compromise.
