Heavy’s Barbeque
A true Texas barbeque joint serving up all your favorites, Heavy’s Barbeque was opened in 2010 by Darryn “Heavy” Bernal. Some barbeque purists might scoff at the rotisserie smokers that Heavy uses to cook his brisket, but just one bite of his heavily crusted and juicy brisket is enough to convert even the most traditional of barbeque fans. The brisket is definitely the star of the show, but be sure to pick up some of the smoked turkey and polish-style sausage. The sausage seriously stands out with plenty of juicy, garlicky goodness in every bite.
Hondough Pizza
If you can believe it, this local favorite started out serving homemade pizza from the back of a women’s boutique on paper plates. From these humble beginnings, owners Justin Myers and Heather Curtsinger grew it into a brick and mortar restaurant with a passionate following and some of the best darn pizza anywhere in Texas. Their pizza is unique and flavorful, with the brisket-laden and aptly named Local Pizza being a particular favorite of ours. Be sure to stop there for lunch as well to pick up one of their fantastic sandwiches, including the phenomenal Pizza Panini.
Silver Creek Specialty Meats and Gourmet Coffee
It’s the match made in heaven that we never knew we needed. Silver Creek is a truly awesome combo of gourmet coffee, specialty sandwiches, butcher shop, and game processing. Truly a jack of all trades and maybe one of the most uniquely Texan places in the world, everything they do is top-notch. There’s nothing quite like dropping off that ten-point buck you just bagged, grabbing a cappuccino with a reuben sandwich, and then ordering five pounds of top-quality ribeye steaks for your next cookout all at the same place. A true Hondo original, be sure to stop by and say hello to the Butcheristas (Butcher + Barista).
