The Iconic Ford Mustang

Is there any vehicle more iconic than the Ford Mustang? A symbol of American ingenuity and freedom, the Ford Mustang has been a beloved fixture on the highways of America for over 50 years. At Cecil Atkission Ford in Hondo, we wanted to take a look back at the vehicle that set the bar for American muscle. First introduced in 1964 at the World’s Fair, the 1965 Mustang was an instant hit. Ford dealers sold 22,000 Mustangs on the first day of its release, far exceeding expectations. This original model could get up to 271 horsepower when equipped with the legendary 289-cid V8. For the next eight years, the Mustang grew in size and power until the demand for muscle cars dipped in the late 60s/early 70s. Ford knew they had to evolve with the time to keep the Mustang relevant. With that in mind, they developed the Mustang II, a subcompact version of the Mustang with a smaller body and smaller engines. Reviews were overwhelmingly positive and sales skyrocketed again. The Mustang was back on top. The US navigated multiple oil crises over the next two decades, and the styling and power of the Mustang shifted with the times. In 1979, the Mustang was built on Ford’s new Fox platform with multiple engines available. Ford began producing Mustangs with high horsepower over the years, climbing back to 210 by 1985. In 1987, Ford introduced the aero style, with flush headlights and a new interior. This version offered two versions: the Ford Mustang LX and the Ford Mustang GT. The LX was economy focused, while the GT came equipped with a V8 engine which topped out at 225 horsepower. By the time the early 90’s rolled around, it was time for a return to form. Shoppers wanted a Mustang with a more classic look. Ford went back to the drawing board and introduced the new body style that many of us grew up with. This updated edition included retro features that called back to the original Mustang design. Ford would introduce new engine options to the platform over the years, including a V8 engine with 260 horsepower. In 2005, Ford would go even further into their retro styling with a squared-off shape that was widely loved by customers and critics. This new version was so popular that it caused a chain reaction of similar updates in rival models. The available 4.6-liter V8 had been tuned to deliver a whopping 300 horsepower. The latest iteration of Mustang was revealed in 2013 and updated again in 2018 for a muscle car that combines classic styling with modern technology for a match made in heaven. The 2020 Ford Mustang GT is equipped with a 5.0L Ti-VCT V8 which delivers 460 horsepower, and that number skyrockets to 526 horsepower in the top-of-the-line Shelby GT350. Truly a modern classic, the Ford Mustang remains one of our most popular models. If you’d like to get behind the wheel of an iconic Ford Mustang, just come to see us at Cecil Atkission Ford in Hondo! Cecil Atkission Ford is Hondo’s Newest EV Dealer!

Cecil Atkission Ford in Hondo is proud to announce that we are now certified to sell Ford Electric Vehicles! This has been a long time coming, and we can’t wait to share these amazing new vehicles with you. Read on to find out about the new EVs currently available from Ford, and how you can get your hands on one for a test drive! more Ford is All In on EVs The shift toward electric vehicles is happening fast and Ford is leading the charge with some amazing offerings, but this isn’t anything new. Ford looked at building EVs for the first time well over a hundred years ago, in 1914. Henry Ford himself was a big proponent of battery electric vehicles as they were simpler and easier to operate than gasoline or steam-powered vehicles of the time, but then as now, battery technology was a big stumbling block. The advent of advanced lithium battery technology has finally allowed EVs to enter the mainstream automotive market. Ford has two very impressive EVs available now or in the near future: The Mustang Mach-E, and the F-150 Lightning. Mustang Mach-E The Mustang is a storied nameplate among the Ford faithful, so the fact that Ford chose to adorn this EV with the Mustang moniker tells you how much faith they’re putting into it. The Mach-E is an SUV like no other. Though it comes complete with four doors and a rear liftgate, the performance numbers sound like a sports car: the Performance Edition of the Mach-E can do 0-60 in 3.5 seconds! That’s faster than a base-spec Porsche 911, and a crazy number for a vehicle this size. Along with the whiplash acceleration comes over 300 miles of EPA-estimated range, the Ford CoPilot 360 safety suite, and Ford BlueCruise, which allows hands-free driving on many highways across the country. The Mach-E can do it all. F-150 Lightning The Ford F-150 has been the best-selling vehicle in the country for over forty years, and when you have a winning formula like this one, making a paradigm shift to electrification seems like killing the goose that laid the golden egg. That is, until you drive one. The reviews are nearly unequivocal: Ford knocked this one so cleanly out of the park that buyers are left wondering what took them so long to electrify the F-150. The launch version of the Lightning is only available in quad-cab with a six foot bed, but what it lacks in bed space it more than makes up for in utility and practicality. Features like multiple 120 volt outlets inside and out, an additional 14 cubic feet of storage space in the ‘frunk’, and the ability to charge other EVs from its own battery pack make this F-150 truly revolutionary. Add to that all time four-wheel drive, over 300 miles of EPA-estimated range and a towing capacity of 10,000 pounds, and you’ll see that this is a vehicle built without compromise. Ford Celebrates 75 years of the F- Series with the 2023 F-150 Heritage Edition!

Ford Celebrates 75 years of the F- Series with the 2023 F-150 Heritage Edition!

Ford has been doing business for an awfully long time. The First Ford rolled out of the factory in 1903, and in the ensuing years, Ford has proven time and again their commitment to innovation, affordability, and competence, not just in their vehicles, but in everything they do, from the Model T to the five-day work week and the production line. It’s one of the reasons we’re proud to provide their vehicles to the Hill Country through Cecil Atkission Ford in Hondo. more So when the first Ford F-series truck rolled into the daylight nearly 75 years ago, it makes one wonder if the company knew what an impact the vehicle would have on the world. The Ford F-150 is the company’s best-selling vehicle for 35 years running and the America’s best-selling pickup truck for 40 solid years. That’s no accident. With the F-Series, Ford found the perfect mix of utility, practicality, versatility, and style. Since 1977, Ford has sold over 26 million Ford F-150s all over the world. To celebrate the 75th anniversary of the F-Series, Ford is releasing a new-for 2023 version of the F-150, dubbed the Heritage Edition. This exclusive options package available on XLT-series trucks includes several exterior accents based on a classic two-tone paint scheme, with the roof and door pillars one color, the body another color, then the first color returning for the lower body, lower doors, and bumpers. The two-tone pattern recalls paint schemes from the 70s and 80s, but looks decidedly different on the modern F-150 with its aluminum body and wide stance. The package continues on the interior with special seat trim covers with unique inserts, a “75 Years” logo on the upper windshield and center console, and an embossed console cover. There are five color/trim combinations available, each with its own unique look: Race Red midsection, with upper and lower Carbonized Gray Atlas Blue midsection, with upper and lower Agate Black Antimatter Blue midsection, with upper and lower Carbonized Gray Avalanche midsection, with upper and lower Agate Black Area 51 midsection, with upper and lower Agate Black Trust us when we say these modern paint colors look amazing in this two-tone style. With the Heritage Edition, you’re sure to stand out from the F-150 crowd. Interested in the 2023 F-150 Heritage Edition?
