About Devine

Like many towns in the west, Devine sprouted up in 1881 thanks to the railroad. As the rails continually expanded westward, new towns grew up around it, and Devine was one of them. In this case, it was the extension of the International-Great Northern Railroad from San Antonio to Laredo. The town grew steadily until, in 1907, it was formally incorporated. It has become a popular location for commuters to San Antonio to settle outside the big city.

The sign at the edge of town says "Small City, Big Heart, Great Future.” You’ll find it all in Devine, from The Dr. George S. Woods Community Center to the inviting green of the City Park and the Devine Golf Course. The proximity to San Antonio means ample access to all the city’s entertainment without the congestion of city life. There’s a regular Fall Festival in November when the weather cools down, making it a great time to visit. It’s easy to see why the town slogan is: “The Name Says It All”.
