Regular Fluid Maintenance Can Prevent Expensive Repairs

The fluids in your car play a critical role in keeping major systems lubricated and working properly. As fluids get old or low, premature wear or failure can occur. It is important to check these fluids regularly and replace as necessary. The five major fluids you need to check are oil, transmission, power steering, brake, and coolant.

  • Most people are aware of the importance of oil and change it regularly. It’s the most commonly changed fluid. It needs to be checked at least once a month and replaced according to factory intervals.
  • The transmission fluid is replaced less often and should be checked at least once a month while the car is running. It should be replaced according to factory intervals.
  • Check the coolant at least twice a year; once during summer and once during winter. Replace according to factory intervals.
  • Check the brake fluid at least once a month and replace according to factory intervals.
  • Check the power steering fluid at least once a month and replace according to factory intervals.
